By Matt Scorer Year 11 Hope Valley College student Rebecca Winterbottom has been selected for trials for the East Midlands Regional side. Rebecca will have trials at Loughborough University in October in the hope of securing a place in the regional squad.P.E Teacher Ruth Cook said: "Its a fantastic achievement for any girl to play herself into contention for the regional side. The standard of ability in the regional side is exceptional and it is now down to Rebecca to prove she is good enough to compete at that level." As well playing for the College team Rebecca also plays for Chinley in the High Peak/Buxton League training and playing 3 times a week. Rebecca said: "I'm really pleased that I've got the opportunity to go for trials to the regional team. Hope Valley College has really developed my game and I love that by playing netball I've met a lot of new people and made new friends." Should Rebecca be successful at the trials she will be expected to train once a month at Loughborough University as well as compete in games. Mrs. Cook added: "The facilities at Loughborough University are top class and, as well as playing with people at a higher level, will really improve Rebecca's game." Principal Bernie Hunter said: "Rebecca making it to trials continues the College's fine tradition of producing athletes who are capable of competing at a higher level - which is a credit to her coaches and all our PE staff. We are delighted for Rebecca and wish her the best of luck."
