By Matt Scorer

Hope Valley College Girls football team cruised to a 5-1 victory over Chapel-en-le-Frith High School girls this week in their first ever match.

The team, captained by Hannah Bywater, swept aside their opposition having been only able to train twice prior to the game.

Hope Valley dominated the match for long periods in a remarkable team performance but they day belonged to Libby Hallam who scored an impressive hat-trick.

Coach Hazel Meredeth said: "For the girls to win in such emphatic style in their first game together is a fantastic sign of things to come in the future. The girls worked their socks off for the duration of the game and I was really impressed with their performance. It was a real team effort."

Tara Jellis secured the team, made up with students from years 7,8 and 9, a fourth goal with an emphatic finish and the scoring was completed with an own goal after a corner from Katie Thompson

"After such a dominating performance the team has really set the bar high. It's now down to the girls to prove that the result was not a fluke in matches to come" added Meredith.

Principal Bernie Hunter said: "With women's football growing nationwide it is appropriate that the College had a girls' football team. It reflects the College's dedication to providing opportunities to cater for the interests of every student. Everybody at the College is delighted with the result and incredibly proud of the team."
