| College to Hold Annual Multi- Cultural Harvest Festival |
|
By Matt Scorer Hope Valley College will hold its annual multi cultural harvest festival on Thursday 22nd October. This year the College is collecting for High Peak Night-Stop, Sheffield Drop-In Centre, homeless people in Sheffield, a local animal charity, the Christmas shoebox appeal and trying to raise money for children in Chernobyl.Head of Religious Education Liz Brewin said: "The multi cultural harvest celebration allows the College to reflect on how lucky we are and pause to give thanks for everything we have. Every year parents and students display a great deal of compassion and generosity to those who are not as fortunate as themselves." The College is asking for donations of tinned meat, vegetables and soups as well as pasta and rice to donate to the Sheffield Drop-In Centre and High Peak Night Stop. It is also asking people to bring in any unwanted clothes, scarves, gloves, hats, socks and blankets to send to homeless people in Sheffield. Any donations of stocking fillers and toys will be used for the Christmas shoebox appeal whilst donations of pet food will be given to local animal charities. Any cash donations will be used to purchase Insulin for children in Chernobyl. Principal Bernie Hunter said: "Every year it amazes what a huge difference the generosity of staff, students and parents makes to the lives of those who are not as fortunate. I can't emphasise how much a small donation can help improve conditions for others. It is fantastic that as a College and a community we can come together to help out others." On the 22nd the College will also hold its traditional Harvest assembly with harvest readings and other inputs from students. |
